Valentines Puppy Hat

I made the Kitty Hat and I thought why not a puppy for the boys. Of course this could also be done in a variety of different colour's and will also work for a girl. This free pattern is written in child size and toddler size but you could also find another beanie pattern and add the ears etc. I have included instructions for spirals as well as the ties. You could also add braids but personally I hate the time they take and I think these look just as cute.

  1. Making the puppy ears on this if I do as it says and "Ch 11, hdc in 3rd ch from the hook and across" I come up with 9 stitches instead of 10 as you say. So should I be chaining 12 or should I hdc in the 2nd ch?

    1. Hi there, the way I learned to crochet was that the ch 2 or ch 3 always counts as a stitch. So if you hdc in the 3rd ch from the hook you are skipping 2 chains which come up to make a stitch. Does that make sense? Check out this link http://crochet.about.com/od/learntocrochet/tp/half-double-crochet-stitch.htm

    1. Make 2 pink

Ch 1 does not count as a sc.

Row 1: Ch 10, sc in 2nd ch from the hook and remaining 8 ch's. (9 sc)
Row 2: Ch 1, turn. Sc across. (9 sc)
      Row 3: Ch 1, turn. Sc2tog, sc in next 5, sc2tog. (7 sc)
Row 4: Ch 1, turn. Sc across. (7 sc)
      Row 5: Ch 1, turn. Sc2tog, sc in next 3, sc2tog. (5 sc)
Row 6: Ch 1, turn. Sc across. (5 sc)
      Row 7: Ch 1, turn. Sc2tog, sc in next 1, sc2tog. (3 sc)
Row 8: Ch 1, turn. Sc across. (3 sc)
      Row 9: Ch 1, turn. sc3tog. (1 sc)

      Finish off. Weave in ends.

Make 2 white (same as above) but don't finish off. Hold pink and white together and with white side facing you sc them together. Join to first sc with a sl st. Ch 1, turn. (pink side facing) sc around again. Join to first sc with a sl st and finish off.
